Vaccine Delivery Digital Solutions | Dimagi

SECTORS

Vaccine Delivery

One of the main challenges of vaccine delivery worldwide is that timely coverage often drops off after the first few rounds. And if patients miss a booster—or are even just delayed—the immunizations are no longer effective.

To ensure the success of public health campaigns and help countries improve coverage of under-immunised and zero-dose children, it is critical to verify delivery to target populations and accurately track patients’ immunization schedule.

CommCare is a highly adaptable open-source mobile health platform that can be customized to meet a variety of vaccine administration and management needs. It has been successfully used to register, identify, and follow both clients and vaccine stock in a variety of countries and for a range of diseases.

Dimagi is a proud member of GAVI Innovation for Uptake, Scale and Equity in immunization (INFUSE) community, allowing us to contribute to saving lives and protecting people’s health by increasing equitable and sustainable use of vaccines.

Benefits of Digital Solutions for Vaccine Delivery

Clinic-based registry systems employ longitudinal data tracking for individuals receiving vaccines.

Turnkey integrations with data analysis and visualization software ensure key stakeholders can monitor and compare mass vaccination campaigns and course completions.

Scheduling and workflow management features help to expand vaccine coverage to every patient.

Bi-directional messaging features allow patients to receive notifications for their next appointment or report adverse events in the interim.

Remote registration and eligibility determinations support vaccine delivery to patients living at the last mile.

Biometrics verification ensures delivery of the vaccines to the appropriate recipients.

Behavior change messaging can help to reduce vaccine hesitancy and increase uptake for uninformed populations.

Data integrations allow collaboration with and export to electronic health systems.

Featured CommCare-Based Vaccine Delivery Programs

Lwala Community Alliance | Kenya

Lwala Community Alliance in Kenya combats high rates of maternal mortality and HIV using a community-led health model and a customized CommCare-based mobile application. Community health workers (CHWs) use the application to register pregnant women and children under five into the formal healthcare system, guiding them through workflows for vaccinations, family planning, disease diagnosis and treatment, and other requested services. Through tiered targeting and outreach events, CHWs have achieved vaccination rates of over 96% across a population of 60,000, significantly improving coverage compared to previous years.

BMGF & WHO: Digital Platform for Polio Campaign Health Workers | Cote D’Ivoire

Since July 2020, Dimagi has partnered with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, GPEI, and WHO to create a CommCare-based health workforce management system for the 2020 polio vaccination campaign in Africa. Starting in Cote D’Ivoire and expanding to other countries, the program aims to improve payment transparency for campaign workers. By leveraging technology, the initiative seeks to enhance efficiency and increase child vaccination rates to combat polio outbreaks.
